more doors...

I FINALLY DID IT!
I DID SOMETHING WITH ALL THE REMAINING DOORS I HAD IN THE GARAGE. I HAD THREE. THE FIRST OF WHICH I DESTROYED TRYING TO CUT A STRAIGHT LINE, AROUND THE DOOR KNOB, WITH A HAND SAW. SO IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF LUGGING THEM TO MY DAD'S TO USE HIS TABLE SAW. (IT'S ABOUT TIME I GET ONE OF THOSE.) I DID THINK THAT IT WOULD BE A LITTLE EASIER THAN IT ACTUALLY WAS. LET ME TELL YOU, OLD SOLID WOOD DOORS IS HEAVY! CUTTING THESE BABIES WAS A TWO PERSON JOB AT MINIMUM.
BUT MY TWO DOORS BECAME 4 WORKING PIECES OF CHARM. THE FIRST WHITE DOOR HAD THE YELLOW GLASS DIAMONDS ON THE TOP( ALWAYS A CLASSY CLASSY CHIOCE), SO IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF HIDING THAT. I WAS FIRST GOING TO KNOCK THEM OUT, BUT THEN SAW ALL THOSE DIY MERCURY GLASS TUTORIALS ON PINTEREST.

I TAPED THE DIVIDING WOOD AND STARTED TO SPRAY. THE TAPING TAKES A WHILE (UNDERSTATEMENT)

THEN I TRIED BOTH THE LOOKING GLASS SPRAY ($11.99 AT HOBBY LOBBY IN A TINY BOTTLE) AND METALLIC ($6.99 AT HOBBY LOBBY IN A REGULAR CAN) I THOUGHT THEY MIGHT LOOK INTERCHANGEABLE, BUT THEY DIDN'T. YOU NEED TO SPRING FOR THE LOOKING GLASS SPRAY PAINT.
ONCE DRIED, I RUBBED SOME OF THE PAINT OFF, THEN SANDED THE WOOD AND FINISHED WITH A CLEAR SPRAY. THEN ADDED GLASS KNOBS TO FUNCTION AS HOOKS. IT'S SO CUTE, AND FOR SALE:

LOOKING GLASS DOOR: $85 (36X43)

THIS IS THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR. THIS WAS SANDED AND FINISHED WITH A CLEAR COAT. HOOKS ADDED, IT HAS A RUSTIC FEEL OF OLD BARN DOORS.

BARN DOOR: $65 ( 36X36)

THIS ONE IS AMAZING! IT'S WEATHERED RECLAIMED SOLID WOOD, IT REMINDS ME OF ALL THINGS RESTORATION HARDWARE THESE DAYS. THIS WAS SANDED AND TOPPED WITH A CLEAR COAT, ADDED HOOKS AND WILL ADD SO MUCH CHARACTER TO ANY ENTRY!
RECLAIMED DOOR: $75 (36X45)

Welcome to my dinner table

Here's the story. Complete with miss spellings and one complete run on sentence......deal with it.

We recently got some old couches redone to be our new couches. I LOVED our old couches because they are the coziest; but when we went to sell, I couldn't pull the trigger. They are just SO comf. We decided to put them in the loft not really thinking about the fact that it was as plausible at lifting an airplane up there. The day we picked up one of our couches, I come home to the hubs trying to lift it up himself. It was literally wedged above the newly broken banister, and completely stripped corner of the wall. The fat daddy wasn't going up the stairs. But we sure did have to try again. So after sweating our tails off trying again and pulling a few muscles we needed to concede....this was not going to happen. We didn't want to store the beast couch or sell it either, so my solution was: move the dinning room into the front room (a living area), and turn the dinning room into a kido den for tv and toys. After much debate we decided to try, and I am so happy we did.

Closed dining rooms that track builders give you are big enough for a dinner party of children. I just needed to break the mental block of the front room only being used for pretty furniture nobody uses, that you still have to clean....BOO. Now I have a room that allows my table to expand to maximum capacity, and here are the pictures are below!

We wanted a lighting fixture to make it look like more of a dining space, but sure didn't want to run electrical. So we took an old window we had and suspended it from wire and put candles on it. I need to add about 3000 more but it works for now. Let's be honest about this though, these candles are decorative dust collectors till Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner.

I had found these 80's to the max shelves at my favorite thrift store for....wait for it....$8.50 with tax. I was planning on painting and selling them, but we kind of loved them too much.
Please also notice my $4 Mad Men lamp cornered too!
Here's the kids new zone and they are loving it!!! We has this little armoire upstairs and brought her in!
evidence! Now we can sit in the other room and watch our show while the kids watch theirs....not that we would ever do that, our kids never watch tv, and we always want to be with them!

Please notice my sons bionic leg!

Now that it is cooling off, I have lots of fun projects in the works for the blog...... so stay tuned!!!!

Hook me up

I found this large piece of sun prettied wood in my original junk pile! I cut the sides and sanded it a bit. Added a hook and stenciled "Packs" on it. I was finding that I needed some additional hooks in the house with the kridders back packs being thrown everywhere.......so I figured that maybe some of you might be having the same problem:)

FOR SALE: $35

fence me in

I got this great big section of fence that was being torn down, I thought it would make the most amazing focal point in a room. I simply painted a white tree on it, and love it just so. It still has it's hinges on it and I think it would look incredible hung on it's side from the hinges maybe suspended from chain:) It will make a great head board or just a great neutral center piece to more rooms!

It's all yours for $75....this one is a bargain for the bang it will give a room! 5'3"x3'3"!!!

Ode to a Thrift Store

Life has been crazy, we've been traveling lots, and I have so much to share!

Just got back from a great weekend with amaz friends, and whilst there we found that Indiana is Goodwill Outlet Mecca (insert harmonized singing chorus here)
The outlets have huge bins of 90% crap 10% amaz; you just have to find it.....it's an adult treasure hunt! They sell everything by weight. If it's light it's basically free, and it's never above $5 for an item (besides furniture...which we got a couch for $12.99?! WHAT?!). The best part is they switch ALL of the bins every few hours. So we stand around the abandoned warehouse, in wait of a new hunt. I found so many treasures! I even had to buy a ghetto $5 suit case to bring them home!

I got this great double sided chalk board, it probably cost a solid quarter.

I got this great little clock at an Antique store for $6 and the books at the outlet for about $1 each....LOVE.

More books! I brought that big mother on the bottom home in my carry on...yikes-ie!

The white oval mirror was a goodwill outlet find $4.99! I love it as a tray!

I found this amazing silverware in a grab bag for $5 from an antique store. Some of the smaller ones were the goodwill outlet.

...Man I love me some Indiana....

Some funky colored suitcases I spray painted white. On top, a painting of hands for Father's Day:) Thank you Pintrest for the idea.

The picture below are 2 Amazing old pictures of Verona from an antique store; I found in Italy. I really wanted something fun from Italy but the souvenirs were so expensive and so dang cheese ball. I found these for a couple bucks each and framed them with frames I picked up at a thrift store in town, painted gold, and backed with butcher paper. And I just love them on my new white walls, Cameron surprised me with when I got home from Indy.

While repositioning things around the house I came across this painting I did a couple of years ago. I don't have a spot in the house for it anymore. So if anyone is interested it's $80. It's a one of a kind acrylic on canvas painting.

Breaking the Break

So....... It's been forever and I haven't been doing nothing.... exactly? Well mostly! But when I go to the gym, the blog has to take a back seat. So as my butt shrinks again, my creative juices get bundled for smaller projects or simply a later date. I plan on tapping in on my super human time extending powers one day, but it's most def not today.
Here are a couple things that I have got accomplished.

I had a chance to do a couple of paintings which I always love to do.

The first (don't judge the iphone shots) is the one below. For my sweet friend Bri, who sent me an inspiration pic. I did my best, and had a fun time incorporating acrylic paint with cuttings of scrapbook paper and modge podge, then layering them.

This one was for another friend. A gift for her wedding shower. She sent out the cutest wedding invitation and I thought, " I want that invitation blown up on my wall!". So off to work I went. It lent it's self to a becoming a painting so perfectly; I was excited to put it together.
This door is my current sleeping project, taking residence in the garage. I started it to be a painting but it's not cooperating......so we'll see???

The door below is one that I did for my house. I'm kind of on a white kick right now and that has also been a huge distraction. I suddenly want everything in my house white, and can't rest till I accomplish it. My husband will, with a sigh, attest to this. Not to long ago I up and started repainting our freshly orange dining room. Antique white....So fun! I of course crapped out on the project 1 hour in and he had to complete it for me. AWWWWW marriage:) LOVE that man. But here is another door that I had, from my dump location, and LOVED the character of. I just wanted to add simple stenciling of a favorite bible verse and call it a day. So here she is. She was meant for the blog, but I'm sorry I didn't pictograph the process from start to finish. But I figure when I can describe what I did in a sentence, there's no need.

So that's what I've been up to.
So when the mood strikes me again (AKA when the weather is consistently warm) I will have some more projects to offer up to you AMAZINGLY loyal 14 followers;)

Table Top No More

This is a little project that I was working on before I started my door projects. This table top that we pulled from the dump site! My dad hauled this one off for me, and I probably looked at him like he was a crazy when I saw it in the back of his truck. It is SO heavy and I didn't have a clue what to do with it! I wanted to tackle it because it was one big eye sore/space taker in my garage. I had been wanting to do shelves of jars for a while now, so why not with this one.

First I had to pull that huge piece out of the middle, that took FOREV! Once that was out, I cut the side of the table top down with a hand saw, cleaned and sanded it.

Then I measured and cut the shelves that I would attach. I painted it all with a white eggshell paint.

Enter my challenge:) I bought a case of canning jars while marketing.
Then I needed to figure out where the jars would be positioned, and needed to make sure that when I did screw them down the the jars with face the same direction. Not as easy as it sounds!

Let me just tell you, this is not my thing ...measuring, marking, screwing it in, over and over. Good thing I had super cute distractions in the front yard with me learning to ride their bikes:)

Then to attach the shelves I started, but I think my hubby couldn't stand how I was doing it, so I let him take over happily!
Once everything was attached, I added these cute label holders, added some more paint and sanded it all around the edges. ALL done, out of the trash, out of the garage, and hopefully up in somebodies home soon for crafting supplies, spices in the kitchen, or nails in the garage. This guy can really go in any room!
